"What's the good of all those pushups if you can't even lift a bloody log!"
I wanted to push the 30 stroke pieces this morning to a new level and I certainly tried to. I am not sure what is a good score for this workout but I definitely went quite a bit harder and quite a bit faster than I did a week ago. I would not say that max power pieces have ever been my thing but I never really understood why not. There has always been some disconnect between the power I am able to demonstrate in the weight room and on high rate high power pieces like these. If I was able to translate my power to the beginning/end of the race(like these pieces simulate) I would have a pretty complete bag of tricks...but there in lies my downfall...I have yet to be able to do so...
I think this morning was a step in the right direction. I went after it from the start and set the tone. I am training by myself, so, convincing myself that I am on my game really helps. There is no one there to change the complexion of the workout for me--only I can do that. Only I can ignite the spark, which is a powerful tool but also a very dangerous one because it is easy to just never ignite it...who would know!?? It is incredibly important for me to hold myself to an impossibly high standard to account for this. Alas, my first piece was 1:27 and I thought that was alright so I just kept hammering away. Then 1:26.5. I tried to put myself in as much jeopardy as I could. The last 5 were brutal and I was happy to finish. I finished with an average of 1:27.5. A good improvement. This was a much shorter workout, around 50 min with warmup and cool down, but it is nice to know that you have done something worthwhile that addresses your weaknesses... Now I have a lot of work to do to get ready for class and then teach it this afternoon! Basketball practice after. Second workout will probably be an easy spin on the bike before dinner!!
So, the entire workout this morning I was thinking of Michael Caine in Batman Begins, " What's the good of all those pushups if you can't even lift a bloody log!" Hahaha, perfect!
I just want to get the full experience!
