3 x Lido Lap this morning.
This is a very "Newport" workout. I am not that fond of it, but scullers here are judged on how fast they can navigate this island, so naturally, its part of the program. Once is tough, twice is enough, and three times is punishment. For me this workout is about getting into a rhythm and being consistent for 15 minutes. It's the type of rowing you do in the third 500, where you are trying to maintain the pace with technique. Trying to keep the pace with minimal effort. If you can do this, it sets you up well for the last 500 to drop the pace with increased power.
The record is 14:30 by my brother Tom Graves who broke Brad Alan Lewis' famous record of 14:39( you might have read the book by the title "Lido for Time:14:39"). Last summer, Tom and Peter set out to break that record and after a couple months of chasing it, Tom did it, with Brad in the launch to watch. He bought Tom waffles as recognition. Obviously, for great times to take place the conditions have to be right. Tide and wind need to cooperate for ideal conditions. If they aren't right, forget about it.
No I did not break the record. Haha..
