It's fascinating how quickly you can slip back into a familiar routine. After a legitimate winter in northern VT, our team is now on the water every single day, twice a day. Liquid water. Our daily routine consisted of making fires, skiing, and wearing a lot of clothes. Now, we wear t-shirts(sometimes), shorts, and hats that don't cover our ears. That all being said, the water does not feel foreign.
Clemson is an amazing venue. They could hold a World Cup here. There is a 6 lane buoyed course directly in front of their boathouse. It has a nice finish line grandstand and the entire course is visible. Their is also an auxiliary 2k course just around the corner from the boat house. It's the way it should be!
Brother Peter is here this week and we have been training in the double. It has been fun rowing together and we have certainly been improving every time on the water. It's really fun to actually be making changes on the water and improving where it counts--in the double, on the water. Getting fast on skis was great this winter, but I will not get a medal this year for improvement in my cross training sport. I need to be rowing cleaner and more savvy than everyone else. Every stroke. It's wonderful to have that opportunity.
We will be here for the next 7 weeks trying to make world class speed.
