2 times.

Back in the swing of things. I have been struggling with the time change over the last week. I have not been getting a lot of sleep just because my body feels so out of whack. The last couple of days however, I have been sleeping three times a day. Its obvious it is catching up with me. Hopefully by the end of this week I will be normalized.

Ben and I have been rowing exclusively the 2x since I have been back. I have not even touched my single yet. I am a little sentimental about just handing the 1x off to someone else, but hey, I guess thats how it goes. Steve will be going to Trials in the 1x. While people may think I am shying away from going back to trials in the 1x, the truth of the matter is, I would love to go and light trials up. I feel very confident in my speed right now. That being said, I wish Steve the best, as a close friend and teammate. Haha. But seriously, even though I am hungry to pursue the 2x internationally, every time I see Steve out there in the 1x I feel an urge to prove myself again. The Single is very cool in that regard. It is gladiatorial. He and I have raced so many times this year and I feel good about my record thus far. It never stops though!

A lot of people have been asking me why I am choosing to row the 2x with Ben. Well, fair question. After racing against the best singles in the world, I have a pretty good idea of where I stack up. I feel like I am moving better than I ever have in the single, but its just an uber competitive field. I have a clear idea of how much faster I need to be to make the A final and medal. Maybe one day I can achieve that, but for now, its a tall order. On the other hand, I have a lot to offer to a team boat. There is more precedent for guys my size doing well in the 2x. Ben and I know that and that is why we have wanted to pursue this boat. As far as we can tell, our boat is fast and worth pursuing. Unfortunately, at NSR 2 in May, we raced with Ben's injured back, and were not racing with our full speed. We are excited to continue to put some miles in the double and show up to trials with a full bag of tricks.

We have switched the lineup, got a new boat, and hopefully will avoid injury! I am really excited to go after the 2x with the same energy and naiveté as I have the 1x! Should be fun. Trials are in 2 weeks.

Here is a clip of us paddling in the 2x.
