looking forward from Henley
Sitting in Heathrow airport right now waiting a couple hours before I jump on a plane to Zurich.
Always sad to leave Henley, but I had a great stay. I think I made the most of my time there. Good training the week before racing, then a few solid efforts in the regatta, making the weekend in a very challenging field. I didn't think this was possible, but I have been infected even further with the bug to just keep going faster. I am motivated at the core to improve wherever I can and by whatever margin. Just improvement.
My race with Campbell was by no means the perfect race for me, plenty went wrong, but it was a really good representation of how I am sculling right now. Sure it can be better, hopefully a lot better, but the speed is coming and I feel like by association I am going faster. Campbell he told me after the race, " Keep doing what you're doing, because its working. I didn't think you were ever going to stop coming." He was incredibly humble and nice to me after the race. We pulled into the docks together, he came over and gave me a big hug. He introduced me to his coach, Bill Barry, from Tideway scullers, and said I could come train with him whenever. Pretty awesome. Aleksandrov and Drysdale both trained there with them at one point or another.
But hey, thats all done now. Lucerne is coming up fast and there will be a full world championship lineup of singles. Very excited to get there. I have heard so many great things about the town and the course. My boat doesn't arrive until Wed. morning so I will have plenty of time to jog around and explore.
