step 2 today against Penkner from Germany. He was in the German 8 at some point but I get the feeling that he hasn't done a whole lot of sculling.

I was up 4 lengths at the barrier and was able to cruise in from there well below race rate. The easy rowing will be over tomorrow though when Olympic bronze medalist Alan Campbell is in the lane next to me.

Its been great getting to know these guys and they have been nice to me, treating me like a peer. But, tomorrow is not a time to just attend the race. I am not a spectator. The period of being in awe of these guys is past. I am going to go and try to win this race.
