Wed. Am pieces

We went out around the lunch break today and found some flat water, which was wonderful. We did a starting 1000m piece and a 500 m piece at base. The LM2x, Nick Trojan and Austin Meyer joined us, but they were doing a singular 1500m piece.

We started Steve out first, giving him a lead on the two doubles. Then we started the lightweight 2x two seconds ahead of us.

This was out first real race pace work since being here so I think we were both excited to go fast and apprehensive about how the travel may have affected us. Regardless, when Dan said go, we just launched out of there like we know how. By the 250m mark, I could tell we were eating up the margin on Nick and Austin. At the 500m, we had pulled back even with them. From there we kept pushing our base rhythm to the 1k, trying to make it as repeatable as possible. We opened up some open water on them by the end of the 1k. They continued on to finish their 1500. We really appreciated having another boat out there to spar with. I think those guys will be very competitive in their event so I think it bodes well for us. Lots of things we can iron out leading into next week but this was definitely a step in the right direction.

The results were:

Graves/Dann 3.04.6
Trojan/Meyer 3.10.0
Steve      3.23

We then did a base 500m:
M2x 1.32
M1x  1.42

We then got left at the race course for an hour because a bus didn't come to pick us up!!! So, Austin and Dan bought some ice cream pops. We sat and ate ice cream for a while.

  1. John, thanks for the ongoing journal. It certainly eases the distance. Stay well and good luck to you, Ben, Steve and the entire USA team.
