10th overall.
The good news is that I can't imagine our rowing feeling much worse than it does right now. And yet, somehow we beat a few crews and were able to stay in Olympic qualifying position. It's nowhere near where we want to be, but given how bad the boat is feeling right now, I feel like the only place to go is up. We struggled from the first stroke to the last stroke of the regatta. Struggled to find stability, to find commonality, to find simplicity. Our fight is always there. Both of us are eager to throw down every time we get on the start line, but for whatever reason we could not find the platform that has very rarely eluded us in the three years we have rowed together. Our rhythm has always been automatic and incorruptible. We were certainly disappointed by not getting top 7 at one of the two World Cups but we are far from discouraged. We will enjoy our last night here in Switzerland then fly back to the US tomorrow and continue on our journey to become a contender in the M2x and qualify this boat for the Olympics. We will get back in singles and get back to the basics of moving the boat so we can come back to the double again with a uniformity and synchronicity that we were missing this regatta. Looking ahead in the near term, we will have to go to Princeton, NJ to race since we failed to get top 7. If we win the trial, then we will be named to the World Championship team for Aiguebilete, France. At World Champs, we will need to be in the top 11 to qualify the boat for the Olympics. In other words, the time is now. We will be eager to get back to work, but its important we both take some time away from the boat( and each other) to gain perspective. We will likely be back in the boat in Craftsbury on Wednesday or Thursday. This is going to be some epic jet lag.
